Job summary

The City of Laguna Beach is seeking an Aquatics Coordinator to lead our aquatic and recreation programs, overseeing daily operations for the new pool facility opening in June 2027. You will coordinate with the Laguna Beach Unified School District and ensure exceptional customer service.

You will mentor a team of 20 year-round staff (up to 50 in summer), teach swim lessons, and help coordinate water sports. You’ll play a key role in the facility opening and support summer camps and events.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Social Services is desired.
• At least two years of experience in organized recreation work.
• Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid/Emergency Oxygen certification.
• Certification as a Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor.
• Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator Certification.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the aquatic facility and oversee a team of 20 year-round staff (up to 50 in summer).
• Teach swim lessons and coordinate water sports and aquatic programming.
• Open the new facility in summer 2027 and support events, camps, and ongoing programming during renovations.
• Develop facility policies and procedures and hire/train staff for the new site.
• Coordinate summer swim lessons and other community programming and updates for residents.
