Job summary

The Town of Avon seeks an Aquatics Supervisor – Operations to lead year‑round aquatics operations, manage lifeguard staff, oversee programs, and coordinate group use and pool rentals. The role also supports summer Nottingham Lake lifeguard operations and helps promote community aquatic programs.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related field from an accredited college or university with at least two years of experience in recreation planning which has included experience in supervising Aquatics facilities and programs.
• Current certification in Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/AED, Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) is required.
• Ability to communicate proficiently in Spanish both verbally and in writing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains pool operations through vigilant and proactive care of equipment, inventories, chemicals, staff training, SDS, water balance, pool deck equipment and preventative maintenance.
• Recruits, selects, and trains full-time and part-time aquatics staff to ensure proper staffing is maintained within the aquatics division.
• Creates the monthly Aquatics staff schedule including regular in-service trainings and manages the schedule throughout the month to ensure full staffing.
• Develops and implements the new hire training program for the aquatics staff and monthly in-service trainings.
• Supervises the work assignments, performance, and evaluation of duties of aquatics staff and provides coaching or corrective action as needed.
• Performs monthly inspections of the aquatics area and ensures ADA compliance and annual state inspections of water rides and devices.
• Develops and initiates a wide variety of aquatic activities such as swim lessons, scuba, kayak, masters swim, swim team and other events.
• Monitors programs in operation, evaluates participation and attendance and makes recommendations.
• Assists with promotional strategies and advertising for all activities.
• Assists in determining fee structures, maintains revenue/expenses, and ensures proper security of funds.
