Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore is seeking an Aquatics Operations Coordinator to keep our pool facilities safe, compliant, and well-maintained. You will oversee daily operations, supervise lifeguard staff, train certifications, and ensure adherence to health and safety standards, delivering exceptional member service.

The role requires strong organizational and leadership skills, plus the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 21 years.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years as lifeguard and pool operator.
  • Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid, CPO, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications required (LGIT preferred).
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to complete additional training as required.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environment with constant mobility.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Aquatic Facility Operations & Safety
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all pool facilities.
  • Maintain continuous surveillance of pools to ensure patron safety and respond promptly and appropriately in emergencies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of pools and surrounding areas and identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment.
  • Test and adjust pool water chemistry; accurately interpret readings from gauges, flow meters, and monitoring equipment.
  • Maintain operational efficiency of filtration and recirculation systems.
  • Record and maintain logs related to chemical levels, maintenance activities, and safety checks.
  • Ensure proper storage, usage, and handling of pool chemicals in accordance with safety regulations to minimize hazards.
  • Enforce all facility rules, regulations, and safety policies consistently.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Prepare and maintain accurate activity and incident reports, including health department forms and sign-in sheets.
  • Oversee the management of identification cards, waivers, and health/incident forms.
  • In accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland and Baltimore County, ensure that routine pool maintenance and sanitation/disinfection are conducted properly.
Staff Training & Certification
  • Oversee lifeguard training programs, in-service sessions, and teach lifeguarding classes to ensure staff maintain high performance and safety standards.
  • Monitor, track, and maintain all staff certifications, including Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED credentials.
  • Coordinate and facilitate certification renewals and recertification courses in compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Ensure all training materials and practices align with current industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Manage inventory related to certification classes and training.
  • Manage seasonal pool openings and closings, ensuring mechanical and structural integrity.
  • Manage proposals for parts, repairs, and maintenance, track submissions, and follow-ups.
Leadership & Customer Service
  • Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, develop and administer a maintenance and service plan for equipment related to operations and Certifications, including the purchase of supplies and equipment.
  • Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, review and update the Emergency Action Plan for the Owings Mills aquatics facility and ensure that staff are properly trained and drilled in its execution.
  • Support special events and departmental activities as assigned.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to members, patrons, and staff.
  • Serve as a lifeguard and/or WSI as needed and support the lifeguard team to ensure safe and effective coverage.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
WHO YOU ARE:
  • Minimum age of 21 years (exceptionally qualified candidates 18+ will be considered).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a lifeguard and pool operator.
  • Current Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid, CPO, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications (LGIT preferred) required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to complete additional training as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with constant mobility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Comfort working in and around water, including swimming, performing basic water rescue skills, and maintaining balance on the pool deck.
  • Ability to work in bright light conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to various environmental elements, including heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and pool chemicals.
  • Requires consistent adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection.
  • Potential exposure to conditions that could result in injury requiring professional medical treatment; strict compliance with safety procedures is essential at all times.
  • Aquatics staff work primarily in hot and humid conditions.
  • Indoor pool areas may have reduced air quality due to chloramines and ammonia compounds produced during the water disinfection process.
  • The noise level is typically high.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
  • Salary (or Salary Range): $50,000-$55,00
