Job summary

YMCA Bay City is seeking an Aquatics Manager on Duty (AMOD) to supervise lifeguards, assist in staffing, and ensure safety rules are enforced at the pool. The AMOD reports to the Aquatics Director and works part-time to safeguard patrons and maintain program quality.

Responsibilities include training, scheduling, and coordinating lifeguards, keeping facilities informed of maintenance needs, and supporting aquatic events.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong swimming and lifesaving abilities with knowledge of rescue techniques.
• Two years of paid lifeguard experience or lifeguard supervisory experience.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification required.
• American Red Cross Community First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer or BSA lifeguard certification required.

Job Title: Aquatics Manager on Duty (AMOD)

Reports to: Aquatics Director

Status: Part Time

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The AMOD, under supervision of the Aquatics Director, is accountable for ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. This position assists in hiring, training, scheduling and appraising lifeguards. The AMOD is responsible for safe guarding patrons in and around the pools and monitoring swimmers by promoting and enforcing all safety rules.

JOB DETAILS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring pool activities, applying first aid, and performing water rescues as necessary.
• Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies and that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on decks. Fills in for lifeguards as needed.
• Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
• Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas is maintained during operating hours.
• Assists in scheduling, coordinating and conducting in-service training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques and current with required training and certifications.
• Keeps facilities department well informed of pool maintenance needs including cleaning, chemical adjustments, and repairs.
• Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Aquatics Director.
• Interfaces with patrons regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. Provides professional input and feedback while responding to problems.
• Ensures that aquatic programs are occurring as desired and assists with the overall management of swimming events.
• Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent.
• Requires strong swimming and lifesaving abilities with working knowledge of lifesaving techniques including backboard rescue.
• Two years paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
• Must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
• Must possess American Red Cross Training certification in Community First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or Boy Scouts of America life guard certification.
• Must be willing to work mornings, mid-day, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and other employees.
• Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsible at all times.
