The City of Carlsbad is seeking a Maintenance Worker I to support the aquatic facilities, performing routine and preventative maintenance on pools, spas, and related infrastructure. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and reliable operation of mechanical systems.

Responsibilities include inspections, repairs, and assisting with complex tasks under supervision, with requirements for a CA driver's license and certifications (CPR/AED/First Aid and CPO or AFO).

Qualifications

• Basic principles of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and building maintenance.
• Basic principles of operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, filters, and related mechanical equipment.
• Safe work practices and procedures.
• Basic recordkeeping methods.
• Customer service principles and practices.

Responsabilités

• Perform inspection, maintenance and repair to aquatic facilities, including swimming pools, spas, splash pads, buildings, grounds, and related equipment.
• Identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and required repairs of facilities, equipment, and mechanical systems.
• Assist with the maintenance, operation, and repair of aquatic mechanical systems, including circulation pumps, filters, heaters, chemical feed systems, chemical pumps, automated controllers, and related equipment.
• Perform plumbing repairs, including replacement of valves, fittings, fixtures, and related plumbing components; assist with repairs involving piping, pumps, and associated equipment.
• Perform minor electrical maintenance and repairs, including replacement of fixtures, switches, ballasts, lighting components, motors, and related equipment.
• Maintain and repair aquatic equipment, including lane lines, lane reels, backstroke flags, lifeguard stands, diving equipment, pool covers, pool lifts, water play equipment, signage, and related facility equipment.
• Perform minor carpentry, painting, and masonry repairs.
• Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of pool decks, mechanical rooms, pump rooms, equipment storage areas, and other facility spaces.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and City vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.
• Assist with inventory, purchasing, and organization of maintenance supplies, chemicals, materials, and equipment.
• Assist with maintaining records of inspections, repairs, preventative maintenance activities, and materials used.
• Assist with facility setup and breakdown for aquatic programs, special events, and community activities.
• Maintain positive working relationships with city staff, contractors, and the public; respond to and resolve customer complaints in the absence of the Aquatics Maintenance Supervisor.
• Respond to emergency maintenance or repair calls as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
