Position Title and Details
  • Position Title: Aquatics Maintenance Technician
  • Department: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)
  • Supervisor: Aquatic Manager
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Position Summary

The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is responsible for taking care of the aquatics facility by ensuring safe water chemical levels and maintaining the integrity of pool structures and equipment. The Aquatics Maintenance Technician is also responsible for the cleanliness of the aquatic facility through the development and execution of a timely maintenance schedule and establishment of standard operating procedures.

Required Education and Experience
  1. High School graduate or GED.
  2. Must be efficient, organized, personable, poised and well groomed. Must have experience in pool, spa and fountain maintenance including chemical use, chemical level testing, pump, equipment maintenance, pool plumbing and all other related items.
  3. Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs such as MS Word and MS Excel.
  4. Valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience
  1. Certified Pool Operator.
  2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  3. Certified Forklift Operator.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be accepted.

Essential Functions
  1. Diagnose, repair and maintain swimming pools and aquatic features.
  2. Work closely with the Facilities team diagnose, repair and maintain water systems, filter systems and pumps.
  3. Respond to Aquatic Center work orders in a timely, friendly and efficient manner to assess and repair non-functioning machinery or equipment.
  4. Ensure that pools are safe, clean, operational, and that all appropriate water, environment, health and safety standards are maintained. Ensure that all pools are compliant with applicable heath codes and statutes.
  5. Regularly test swimming pool water quality and pH balance. Maintain a chemical log of the water quality for records purposes.
  6. Log and report equipment faults, facility needs or water quality problems to Aquatic Manager.
  7. Keep pools free of debris using vacuum cleaners and telescopic pole with net to clean.
  8. Assist in the planning and execution of facility shutdowns and maintenance procedures. Work collaboratively with the Aquatics Manager to develop and implement an aquatics preventative maintenance plan.
  9. Establish standard operating procedures for aquatics cleaning and maintenance activities; assist in communication and training of operating procedures to staff.
  10. Operate and inspect tools and equipment and make minor adjustments and repairs.
  11. Fix pool lights above and below water level. Check and repair corrosion, cracks and leaks in the pool tiles, grates, and fountain features.
  12. Maintain all stainless steel to ensure rusting does not occur.
  13. Ensure equipment such as pool lifts, diving boards and slides are in good working condition. Maintain the pool and all water features using proper chemicals and cleaners.
  14. Perform housekeeping duties in and around the Aquatic Center, i.e. scrubbing, washing, picking up litter, pest control etc.
  15. Safely transport and store hazardous chemicals.
  16. Maintain an equipment checkout program by performing checks before and after use for defects, repair, etc. and discard defective equipment in accordance with procedures. Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to the Aquatic Manager.
  17. Complete applicable reports and records.
  18. Be knowledgeable for all Emergency Disaster Evacuation Plan preparedness for the aquatics area, as directed by the Aquatics Manager.
  19. Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including holidays, weekends and evenings. Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  20. Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
  21. Interface with members and guests regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues. Provide input and feedback while responding to problems.
  22. Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for guests through professional and courteous behavior.
  23. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  24. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  25. Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  26. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 50-75 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions. Equipment Needs

Chemical feeders, chemicals, pool vacuums, wet/dry vacuums, pool filters, power washer, and other pool maintenance equipment. Power tools, hammer, wrench, screwdrivers, hand drill.
