Position Summary

Under the direction of the Safety Program Manager for Aquatics, the lifeguard instructor is responsible for the instruction, leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all class participants. The instructor ensures the proper appearance, presentation, and working order of all materials and equipment used for lifeguard instruction. It is their responsibility to observe, direct all class participants, and provide feedback and appropriate correction according to the American Red Cross or Lifesaving Society standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan and organize personal class teaching outlines, methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard or Lifesaving Society.
2. Organize and direct activities of assigned participants to provide high-quality instruction for all students.
3. Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.
4. Assist in organizing and developing special programs, activities, or instruction.
5. Complete and submit records and documentation of completed classes immediately after course completion.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current ARC/LSS Lifeguard Certification
• Current ARC/LSS Lifeguard Instructor Certification
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications
• Ability to react quickly in emergency situations, perform strenuous activity, and assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights
• Remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time

Preferred Requirements

• Previous lifeguard instruction experience
