SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, the Head Lifeguard enforces safety regulations for the protection of pool patrons, suggests updates to regulations, assists in general maintenance, and performs other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
  1. Reports to: Pool Manager
  2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
  3. Other: Works closely with the Parks and Recreation Department, the general public, and other city employees.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
  • Assists the Pool Manager with programs including recreational swimming, swim lessons, and other pool events.
  • Makes sound decisions during situations and reports to the Pool Manager.
  • Prepares pools and surrounding areas for programs and maintains the facility.
  • Attends staff and department training meetings as necessary.
  • Works weekends as assigned and attends at least 2 in-services during the summer season.
  • Participates in certification and re-certification programs as needed.
  • Provides safety protection for patrons.
  • Maintains daily records of maintenance, pH, and chlorine readings, and files incident reports.
  • Provides first aid according to American Red Cross standards.
  • Participates in routine maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
  • Remains prepared to perform water rescues when necessary.
  • Reports unusual situations, incidents, and accidents to the Pool Manager.
  • Attends all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
OTHER IMPORTANT DUTIES

Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of general pool operations and personnel policies.
Ability to follow regulations, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school diploma or equivalent; at least one year of experience as a lifeguard at a public pool.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
  • Valid Texas driver's license or alternative transportation.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent.
