Job summary

YMCA of Middle Tennessee is seeking an Aquatics Director to lead the safe and high‑quality aquatic program development for members and guests. You will model core YMCA values, oversee scheduling, staffing, and budget management while ensuring Lifeguard coverage and safety standards.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to train and evaluate staff, maintain pool operations, certifications, and deliver engaging programs across the facility and potential

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent; a 4-year college degree is preferred.
• Minimum 1600 hours lifeguarding experience and at least four years experience teaching aquatic programs.
• Experience with pool operations and testing pool chemicals; Pool Operator certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• Ensure the safe delivery of aquatic programs to members, participants and guests.
• Develop and implement safe high quality programming, scheduling, purchasing of equipment, and promotion for facility and off-site programs.
• Maintain a clean and safe pool environment and equipment; meet relevant standards.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate aquatic staff and volunteers; ensure lifeguard coverage.
• Maintain staff certifications; train all staff in emergency procedures and incident reporting.
• Direct and coordinate all aquatic programs and certification courses.
• Manage program information and records for development and evaluations.
• Respond to member/participant concerns in a timely, professional manner.
• Prepare budgets for aquatics programs and ensure adherence to income/expense targets.
• Attend meetings and participate in committees; support Annual Giving Campaign.
• Meet deadlines assigned by leadership.
