Job description

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a dedicated and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our aquatics programs at the North Kansas City YMCA located in North Kansas City, Missouri. This role is pivotal in promoting water safety, health, and community engagement through our diverse aquatic offerings.

The Aquatics Director will oversee all aspects of the aquatics department at the North Kansas City YMCA, ensuring high standards of risk management, member satisfaction, and program quality. This position provides leadership in developing and managing programs for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leads the development and execution of annual operating plans for assigned aquatic programs. Regularly monitors progress toward goals and implements necessary adjustments to ensure objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
  2. Prepares and manages the aquatics budget, monitors expenditures, and ensures financial sustainability.
  3. Design and maintain a diverse schedule of revenue generating activities, classes and programs for members and participants of all abilities and levels.
  4. Responsible for overseeing pool maintenance and operations: including chemical checks, cleaning, permits, etc. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  5. Able to perform duties of lifeguard, water fitness instructor, swim coach or swim lesson instructor as stated in corresponding job descriptions.
  6. Conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPR, and Administering Emergency Oxygen trainings based on current certifications.
  7. Be responsible for injury/accident reporting procedures.
  8. Serve as a Risk Management Specialist at your center, including the development and supervision of departmental Emergency Action Plan.
  9. Responsible for entire human resource cycle of all aquatic staff (recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate), including current knowledge of all areas of training and certifications.
  10. Attend community functions and events to promote the Y, its mission and programs.
  11. Must provide direction and lead all staff at your center including the coordination and facilitation of regular in-service staff meetings.
  12. Assist in YMCA fund raising activities and special events including the accomplishment of all departmental Annual Mission campaign goals.
  13. Attendance of Community Mission Board meetings as deemed necessary by supervisor.
  14. Develop and implement retention and sale initiatives for all aquatics programs and members.
  15. Insure all program operation is consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, and personnel and accounting systems. Develop policies and procedures for specific program efforts as needed.
  16. Part of the center management team to include responsibility for the administration, promotion and operation of the appropriate center activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in management.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in aquatics or a related field.
  • Preferred three years’ experience in Aquatics management.
  • Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certification from national organization. Red Cross preferred.
  • Preferred Lifeguard Instructor certification from national organization.
  • Able to manage and monitor department budget.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.
  • Must have reliable transportation. Travel around the Greater Kansas City area may be required.
