The YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a dedicated and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our aquatics programs at the North Kansas City YMCA located in North Kansas City, Missouri. This role is pivotal in promoting water safety, health, and community engagement through our diverse aquatic offerings.
The Aquatics Director will oversee all aspects of the aquatics department at the North Kansas City YMCA, ensuring high standards of risk management, member satisfaction, and program quality. This position provides leadership in developing and managing programs for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Responsibilities
- Leads the development and execution of annual operating plans for assigned aquatic programs. Regularly monitors progress toward goals and implements necessary adjustments to ensure objectives are met efficiently and effectively.
- Prepares and manages the aquatics budget, monitors expenditures, and ensures financial sustainability.
- Designs and maintains a diverse schedule of revenue-generating activities, classes, and programs for members and participants of all abilities and levels.
- Oversees pool maintenance and operations: including chemical checks, cleaning, permits, etc. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Able to perform duties of lifeguard, water fitness instructor, swim coach, or swim lesson instructor as stated in corresponding job descriptions.
- Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Oxygen trainings based on current certifications.
- Responsible for injury/accident reporting procedures.
- Serves as a Risk Management Specialist at your center, including the development and supervision of departmental Emergency Action Plan.
- Manages the entire human resource cycle of all aquatic staff (recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate), including current knowledge of all areas of training and certifications.
- Attends community functions and events to promote the YMCA, its mission, and programs.
- Provides direction and leads all staff at your center, including the coordination and facilitation of regular in-service staff meetings.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events, including achieving all departmental Annual Mission campaign goals.
- Attends Community Mission Board meetings as deemed necessary by supervisor.
- Develops and implements retention and sales initiatives for all aquatics programs and members.
- Ensures all program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, and accounting systems. Develops policies and procedures for specific program efforts as needed.
- Participates in the center management team, including responsibility for the administration, promotion, and operation of center activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent management experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in aquatics or a related field.
- Preferred three years’ experience in aquatics management.
- Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications from a national organization. Red Cross preferred.
- Preferred Lifeguard Instructor certification from a national organization.
- Able to manage and monitor department budget.
- Effective collaboration with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- High levels of discretion and confidentiality.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and multitasking proficiency.
- Strong computer skills with adaptability to new software.
- Reliable transportation; travel around the Greater Kansas City area may be required.
