Qualifications

The Aquatics Director supports the Y’s mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role manages aquatic inquiries, organizes safe swim programs, oversees the Hurricanes Competitive Youth Swim Team, and swim lessons for all ages. Responsibilities include staff hiring, supervision, budget management, scheduling, and training. The director ensures a positive, safe environment, promotes member wellness and engagement, and adheres to YMCA policies. Additionally, they develop new procedures to achieve strategic goals.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Health Science, Recreation, or related field
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Current National Lifeguarding Certification or completion within 60 days of hire
  • Current WSI Certification or completion within 60 days of hire
  • Current CPO Certification or completion within 180 days of hire
  • 2+ years of experience in Aquatics programming
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products and computer skills

  • Completion of Certified Pool Operator training within 60 days of hire
  • Completion of relevant YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Aquatics programming
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Ability to direct operations, including volunteer development, staff supervision, budget development, marketing, and program development
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and computer skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic segments
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations

Essential Functions
  • Implement and manage high-quality aquatic programs aligning with community needs and YMCA standards
  • Supervise aquatics staff, handling recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations
  • Motivate staff to achieve department and organizational goals
  • Assist in developing and managing the department budget
  • Complete safety and quality documentation and participate in the Safety Committee
  • Conduct safety training for staff and community, ensuring certifications are current
  • Maintain program statistics to assess effectiveness
  • Schedule pool facilities, including pool birthday parties
  • Ensure pools meet health and safety standards, maintaining cleanliness, chemical balance, and water quality
  • Build strong relationships with members and the community, addressing inquiries and complaints
  • Provide coverage for swim lessons or lifeguard shifts as needed
  • Assist in marketing and distributing program information
  • Support fundraising activities and special events
