Job summary

The YMCA of Honolulu seeks an Aquatics Administrator to oversee all administrative duties in the Aquatics department and ensure smooth operations. This role supervises lifeguards, swim instructors, classes, and safety compliance while delivering high-quality customer service.

Requires lifeguard certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, a high school diploma, and a valid driver’s license. Training and development are provided to support staff growth and program development.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • TB test required.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Must have lifeguard certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract.
  • Must pass CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily pool operations to ensure safety and health regulations are met.
  • Schedules and supervises lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim lessons.
  • Maintains pool facilities and records pool chemical levels.
  • Develops and implements swim programs and class schedules.
  • Provides friendly customer service and represents the YMCA professionally.

PAY RANGE:

$21.50 - $23.50 Hourly

AVAILABILITY:

Full-Time Afternoons, Evenings, Weekends

POSITION SUMMARY:

Oversees and supports all administrative duties in the Aquatics department and ensures that Aquatics is operating smoothly. Supervises daily operations of the Aquatics Department including pool maintenance, scheduling and supervising of both lifeguards and swim instructors, scheduling and supervising of swim lessons program, and program development and implementation. Ensures the safety of the members, program participants, and patrons who utilize the YMCA of Honolulu aquatic facilities. Serves as a representative of the YMCA by providing quality customer service, while meeting all standards and expectations. Works under the supervision and guidance of the Aquatics Director or designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supports the YMCA mission and exemplifies the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and diversity.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and behavior consistent with the philosophy, values, mission and policies of the YMCA.
  • Provides friendly, quality customer service in a timely and professional manner.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all members, staff, volunteers and the community.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • TB test required.
Skills/Knowledge:
  • Requires understanding of group work process, program and staff development, skilled in general management and communications.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be people oriented, possess strong management and supervisory skills, be well organized and multi-task oriented.
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Knowledge of program fiscal management preferred.
Education/Training:
  • Current lifeguard certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; One year or more of college education is preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching youth swim lessons preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean traffic abstract.
  • Must be able to pass CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days upon hire.
  • Required completion of YMCA’s mandatory training modules for program staff within required timeframes and current upkeep of mandatory certifications required.
