Job summary

City of Indianapolis seeks an Aquatic Supervisor to manage the Park Aquatic Facility, including programs, staff, and safety compliance. You will design recreational activities, supervise lifeguards, and ensure water quality while coordinating safety and training across the facility.

You will partner with the Park Manager on recruitment, training, and program evaluation, and oversee financial record-keeping and customer service at the aquatic location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration or related field; one year of related work experience may substitute for each year of formal education.
• Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience in Aquatic Operations.
• Thorough knowledge of pool and water chemistry and operations: water testing, chemical applications, calibration, pump operation, back washing, cleaning, vacuuming, and inventory.
• Required or ability to obtain licenses/certifications: Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard License, ARC Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate, AO/CPO, Indiana Public Passengers Chauffeurs License.
• Prefer CPRP (Certified Parks & Recreation Professional).
• Respiratory physical and fit test for chemical mask, training in chemical handling procedures.
• Experience in training and supervising employees.
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Designs and implements recreational programs in aquatics and youth/family programs.
• Manages training and professional development of aquatic personnel.
• Maintains aquatic facility with focus on safety for participants and employees.
• Oversees lifeguard coverage, rotations, and facility safety inspections.
• Ensures water quality and balance in the facility.
• Assists Park Manager with recruitment, training, evaluation, and supervision of on-site staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Maintains lifeguard and staff in-service training.
• Assists Park Manager in assessing community recreational needs.
• Plans, designs, implements and evaluates aquatic programs and services at location.
• Maintains revenue collection and financial accountability; keeps records.
• Monitors resources and recommends improvements to meet community needs.
• Adheres to department policies; maintains detailed records; ensures policy compliance.
