The City of Indianapolis & Marion County is seeking an Aquatic Supervisor to manage aquatic programs, services, facilities and personnel at the Park Aquatic Facility. The role designs and implements recreational programs in aquatics and youth and family programs.

The position requires directing staff training, ensuring safety, water quality, and program execution, while coordinating community aquatic offerings and revenue processing. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge of pool and water chemistry and operations, including testing, calibration, and chemical handling.
  • Lifeguard Instructor and Lifeguard License, CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate, and AO/Certified Pool Operator Certification or Aquatic Facility Operator.
  • Indiana Public Passengers Chauffeurs License may be required or applicable.
  • CPRP (Certified Parks & Recreation Professional) preferred.

Description du poste

Position is responsible management of aquatic programs, services, facilities, and personnel at the Park Aquatic Facility. Work related activities would include all facet of recreational programming and service delivery.Designs and implements recreational programs in the core service areas of aquatics and youth and family programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manages the training and professional development of aquatic personnel at facility.
  • Maintains aquatic facility providing the highest attention to safety for participants and employees.
  • Provides proper on deck supervision of staff, appropriate levels of lifeguard coverage, lifeguard attentiveness, proper lifeguard rotations, facility inspections and closing facility or attractions when required by health and safety guidelines.
  • Maintains and operates aquatic facility providing the highest attention to water quality and balance.
  • Assists Park Manager who recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines and advises on-site personnel, volunteers and contractors.
  • Maintains ongoing lifeguard and staff in-service training.
  • Assists Park Manager who assesses the recreational needs of the community.
  • Plans, designs, implements and evaluates aquatic programs and services at location.
  • Responsible for proper collecting and depositing of revenues, financial accountability and record keeping.
  • Assists Park Manager who monitors, evaluates and recommends improvements, repairs, or changes to the resources of the park location to best meet the needs of the community.
  • Adheres to resource management criteria of the department in the management of park facilities.
  • Maintains detailed record keeping.
  • Coordinates the training and monitoring of adherence to departmental policy and procedure at aquatic location.
  • Lifeguards, and scans assigned zone of protection, rule enforcement, proper rotation.
  • Provides safety assistance, rescues, emergency actions and first aid when necessary.
  • Monitors participants and users of the facility.
  • Provides the highest attention to safety for participants, self and fellow employees.
  • Follows all established protocol for biohazard materials.
  • Follows all aquatic facility rules and protects self from sun exposure.
  • Reports immediately any hazardous conditions to supervisor including inability to properly scan zone due to weather or other conditions.
  • Maintains minimum number of staff in-service hours required by department and meet minimum standards for both independent and internal performance audits and risk management.
  • Teaches, coaches and/or assists with lessons, swim team, other programs and special events at location in accordance with the designated swim lesson and water adjustment program guidelines and protocol.
  • Provides supervision and safe operation of all aquatic programs.
  • Adheres to department policy and procedure at aquatic location.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration or related field.
  • One year of related work experience may be substituted for each year of formal education.
  • A minimum of two (2) years prior related experience in Aquatic Operations.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of pool and water chemistry and operations to include water testing and chemical applications, chemical controller calibration, set points and operation, chemical pump operation, back washing of pool filters, cleaning strainer baskets, slide and play feature motor operation, pool heater operation, pool vacuuming, vacuum operation and maintenance, chemical and supply ordering and inventory.
  • Licenses/Certifications required or ability to obtain: Lifeguard Instructor and Lifeguard License, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, CPR and First Aid Teaching Certificate, Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator Certification, Indiana Public Passengers Chauffeurs License.
  • Prefer CPRP (Certified Parks & Recreation Professional).
  • Position will require a respiratory physical and fit test for chemical face mask, maintenance and chemical handling procedures training.
  • Job knowledge and experience in all facets of Aquatic Operations.
  • Experience in training and supervising employees.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Customer service and people oriented.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, policies and protocol.
  • Valid Indiana operator's license required.
Location and Hours

Aquatic Supervisor is assigned to the park location as a primary work location in a standard office and aquatic facility environment including pool deck, pool, chemical and equipment rooms, outdoor work during summer months, and pool chemical applications. Work hours will include holidays, weekends and evenings. Aquatic Supervisor will be expected to travel to various locations for work- related activities, training and meetings. May be in working environments in which employee is the only staff person on site at a particular time. Work related activities would include all facets of recreational programming and service delivery. Aquatic Supervisor may be on-call at times in the absence of the Park Manager and/or Sr. Coordinator. Incumbent is on-call on a 24 hours, seven days a week with the exception of approved vacations.
