Ohio State University seeks an Aquatic Program Specialist to lead aquatic programming under supervision. You will create program ideas, manage logistics for Learn To Swim, recruit and train 15–25 student staff, and ensure equipment readiness and safety.
This role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, 2+ years of related experience, and current ARC Lifeguarding and WSI certifications; LGI/LGIT certifications are a plus. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Job Title: Aquatic Program Specialist Department: Student Life | Recreational Sports Administration
The Aquatic Program Specialist will work independently under guidance of their supervisor in aquatic programming. Applies industry knowledge to create program ideas and manages logistics for the Learn To Swim program which consists of over 500 participants annually; manages program registration process and marketing of swim lessons, recruits, hires, trains, certifies, schedules, supervises, evaluates and retains a student staff of 15-25 students; conducts staff training and directs the evaluation of employee skills to promote and assure a meaningful and appropriate program; maintains and assures the readiness of program equipment; conducts regular student staff meetings; plans for and schedules the staff necessary to conduct programs within the established budget; prepares and audits the student staff payroll, inventory, student staff uniforms, program equipment and processes purchase requisitions to replenish as needed; completes required reports, operational logs, requests, and other paperwork as required and necessary; coordinates private swimming lessons; maintains program roster for Activities and Programs with Minor Participants for the aquatics area; coordinates other aquatic programs (e.g. SCUBA, log rolling, battleship, etc.); coordinates facility rentals for programs; Provides lifeguard coverage of aquatic facilities; establishes, maintains and promotes good public relations; attends scheduled professional staff meetings and provides leadership; promotes a positive professional image and provides exceptional customer service; works to build consensus between program areas and facilities in which they are occupying; ensures cleanliness of facility and programs; assists as directed in the supervision of special events, competitive events and facility rentals including set-up, execution, tear down and necessary cleaning; some evening and weekend hours required.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor certifications. Obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification within 6 months of hire.
Experience in aquatic programming; supervisory experience. Masters degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; American Red Cross certifications, Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT), Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI), and Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer (LGIT); experience working with Fusion software or other program registration software; experience working in a Recreational Sports setting; experience in the administration and organization of Recreational Sports.
