Position Summary:

The Aquatic Specialist will oversee swim lessons and aquatic events, assist in aquatic administration, scheduling, programming, swim instruction, and staff oversight.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Oversee, train, and schedule swim instructor staff.
  2. Develop and supervise aquatic programs including swim instruction, special events, and the 3rd Grade Swim program.
  3. Coordinate with schools, recruit and schedule volunteers, and teach classes as needed.
  4. Maintain a physical presence during programmed and peak times, including nights and weekends.
  5. Instruct, coach, or lifeguard aquatic programs as needed, ensuring safety and quality.
  6. Manage swim meet setup, operation, and teardown.
  7. Assist in developing new aquatic programs and evaluate existing ones.
  8. Prepare reports, correspondence, training materials, and manage administrative tasks like scheduling and inventory.
  9. Ensure effective communication with staff, members, and coaches.
  10. Monitor and maintain aquatic inventory.
  11. Provide excellent customer service and enforce safety rules.
  12. Evaluate and train swim instructors, conduct meetings and in-services.
  13. Communicate effectively with groups and individuals.
  14. Ensure safety compliance and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Proficiencies:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 2+ years in aquatic instruction or coaching.
  • Fluent in English, able to work varied shifts.
  • Experience in public interaction and effective communication.
  • Proficiency in swimming all four strokes, preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR, AED, Oxygen Administration, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Water Safety Instructor within specified timeframes.
  • Desirable: Lifeguard certification, Adaptive Swim Recreation certification.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform all aquatic activities and lift weights as specified.
Physical Requirements:
  • Proficient in swimming and physical activities related to aquatic instruction.
  • Capable of physical exertion including lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Good health and mental fitness to meet job demands.
