Job summary

OrthoArkansas in Conway seeks an APRN for Orthopedic Urgent Care to deliver immediate care for acute musculoskeletal injuries. You will perform rapid assessments, order imaging, and carry out in-office procedures in collaboration with physicians.

In a fast-paced setting you will explain treatment plans, coordinate with specialists, manage recovery plans, document thoroughly in the EMR to ensure seamless patient care, and mentor staff while contributing to quality improvement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Active Arkansas Nurse Practitioner (FNP) license.
  • 1+ years of experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or orthopedics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and treat patients with acute orthopedic injuries, including fractures, sprains, and dislocations.
  • Perform and interpret X-rays in collaboration with radiology staff and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Conduct in-office procedures such as joint aspirations, injections, reductions, and wound repairs.
  • Administer medications, injections, and IV therapies; apply splints and braces.
  • Explain injuries and treatment plans to patients and families; guide rehab and activity restrictions.

Position Overview
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) at OrthoArkansas Orthopedic Urgent Care plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, immediate orthopedic care to patients with acute musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Working in a fast-paced urgent care setting, this role involves rapid assessments, treatment planning, performing in-office procedures, and ensuring seamless patient care from diagnosis to recovery. The APRN will work collaboratively with physicians, imaging specialists, and other healthcare providers to provide timely, efficient, and expert orthopedic treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Urgent Care Patient Assessment & Treatment
    • Evaluate and treat patients presenting with acute orthopedic injuries, including fractures, sprains, dislocations, lacerations, and soft tissue injuries.
    • Perform and interpret X-rays in collaboration with radiology staff.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans, including splinting, bracing, casting, wound care, and pain management.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and lab tests as needed for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Perform in-office procedures such as joint aspirations, joint and soft tissue injections, fracture reductions, wound repairs, and laceration suturing.
  • Administer medications, injections, and IV therapies as appropriate for orthopedic urgent care patients.
  • Apply and remove splints, braces, and orthopedic devices to support injury stabilization and recovery.
  • Clearly explain injuries, treatment plans, and at-home care instructions to patients and their families.
  • Provide guidance on rehabilitation, physical therapy, post-injury activity restrictions, and pain management.
  • Coordinate referrals to orthopedic specialists, physical therapy, or surgical consultations as needed for ongoing care.
  • Work alongside physicians, X-ray technicians, medical assistants, and clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow and optimal care.
  • Maintain open communication with supervising physicians, particularly for complex cases requiring advanced interventions.
  • Partner with front office and scheduling teams to facilitate same-day or follow-up appointments as necessary.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
    • Complete required forms such as FMLA, work/school excuses, and return-to-sport clearances.
    • Adhere to infection control, safety, and compliance regulations to ensure patient and staff well-being.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Stay current with best practices in orthopedic urgent care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the urgent care team and enhance patient care services.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
    • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited program.

    • Strong clinical expertise in urgent care settings, including the ability to assess and treat a high volume of patients quickly and effectively.
    • Proficiency in orthopedic procedures, including fracture reductions, casting, splinting, and joint injections.
    • Excellent communication and patient education skills to ensure a clear understanding of injuries and treatment plans.
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    • Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and diagnostic imaging interpretation.
