Job summary

Holt Group in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking an Apprentice Shop Service Technician who will participate in on-the-job training while learning to service heavy equipment.

You will assist with maintenance, installation, and testing of mechanical and electrical components, follow safety rules, and attend technical and soft skill classes while reporting to the MAC division.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to learn repair procedures on mechanical equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and guidelines.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
• Assist with installation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical components.
• Inspect equipment and parts to ensure proper functioning.
• Connect or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and related parts.
• Attend training classes and apply skills learned.
• Maintain safety training and procedures.
• Receive coaching from service leadership.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Adhere to safety policies and company standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Description

Job Summary: The Apprentice Shop Service Technician will perform on-the-job training (OJT) while learning and developing as a technician.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis:

3. Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions

• Gains knowledge of and assists with the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment
• Assists with installation, repairs, maintenance, and replacement of mechanical and electrical components
• Examines and test equipment, components, and parts to ensure proper functioning
• Adjusts, connects, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts
• Attends Technical and Soft Skill classes and successfully incorporates skills learned
• Maintains safety training and procedures
• Receives coaching, mentoring, and feedback from service leadership
• Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

Travel:

• Very limited travel and overnight stays are expected for this position

Physical Requirements:

• Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment
• Routinely moves materials or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds
• Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
• Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climb up and down ladders
• Be able to safely maneuver and work around equipment
• Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment:

• Regularly works indoors and outdoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
• Uses of hand and power tools to complete tasks
• Noise level may be loud at times and may be exposed to whole body vibration
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
• May spend time in stationary, confined, and high places
