Job Summary

The technician will perform repair work on a wide variety of equipment ranging from complete machine overhauls to minor repairs such as fixing leaks, changing fluids and filters. Other repairs may include rebuilding components such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic cylinders, and hydraulic pumps. Some locations have test equipment to dyno test engines, hydraulic pumps, and transmissions. Installations may include undercarriage on track machines, attachments on plumbing excavators for hammers or scalers, quick coupler attachments on loaders, excavators, and backhoes.

Job Responsibilities

• Participate in and successfully complete the apprenticeship program consisting of week-long training sessions and on-the-job training for a total of 24 months.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and diagnose failures.
• Perform diagnostic functions, check pressures, check voltage, locate sources of noise or vibration.
• Disassemble machines, order parts, make repairs, reassemble, and verify machine operation to ensure repairs are complete, with no leaks, and the unit is work-ready.
• Clean parts, scrape gaskets, and prepare for assembly.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the work environment.
• Travel to job sites and vendor training sessions as needed.

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; a 2-year technical degree or military training preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the heavy equipment industry or a related field.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and basic mathematical skills.
• Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office programs and diagnostic software provided by manufacturers.
• Good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, push, pull, twist, carry, and lift up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to work at heights of up to 15 feet.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Self-starter capable of working with limited supervision.
• Maintain excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to pass background, physical, and drug screenings.
