Job summary

The City of Kalamazoo invites applications for an apprentice-level role performing maintenance and construction on wastewater and storm water collection systems. You will assist with Vactor-Jet operations, transport materials, perform routine repairs, read maps, and support street and utility maintenance projects on site.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift up to 90 lbs, and safety-conscious teamwork.

Qualifications

• Completion of a high school diploma or GED.
• Basic reading, math and safety awareness for field work.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with others in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assists Vactor-Jet Operators utilizing Combination Vehicle in cleaning and maintenance of the wastewater system.
• Operates trucks to transport sand, stone, gravel and supplies.
• Performs snow removal and street sweeping operations.
• Reads maps and makes emergency system shutdowns.
• Performs minor vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Maintains barricades and traffic delineators; supports Public Services activities.
• Completes simple work reports using handheld computers.
