Job summary

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of hand and air tools.
  • Understanding of basic assembly skills.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Willing to travel as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with measuring tools and data recording is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, measure, and restore out of tolerance conditions on customer products using gaging and tools.
  • Maintain general shop cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members daily to complete tasks.
  • Work in shop or on-site at various locations as required.
  • Learn to apply engineering drawings and procedures.
  • Take precise measurements with micrometers and other gages.
  • Document inspection data for reports.
  • Repair and verify propeller areas following approved procedures.
  • Learn to operate oxy/acetylene torch equipment for heating and cutting.
  • Support propulsion system repair and modification projects.
  • Operate overhead bridge crane and forklift for movement of equipment.

Job description

The Apprentice Propeller Technician position is an entry-level position for individuals who are eager to build a career in the Maritime industry while receiving hands-on training from experienced technicians. Candidates should have a strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality standards, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop the technical skills and experience needed for a successful career in the maritime repair industry.
Main Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to inspect, measure, and restore out of tolerance conditions on all customer products. This will require use of gaging, hand tools, and air/electric tools.
  • Maintain general shop cleanliness by adhering to safety, security and cleanliness standards.
  • Interface and work closely with other colleagues on a daily basis as part of a team.
  • Must be willing and able to perform all duties in the shop and or on-site at various locations
  • The ability to comprehend or learn how to apply engineering drawings.
  • Perform detailed measurement using standard and precision measurement tooling such as micrometer, veneers, and various inspection gages.
  • Document all visual and dimensional inspection data for reports using standard forms.
  • Repair and verify all areas of the propeller based on using approved procedures.
  • Capable of learning how to use oxy/acetylene torch equipment for heating and cutting operations.
  • Perform support activities to ensure successful, repair and modification of propulsion systems.
  • Operate overhead bridge & forklift for moving and positioning equipment and tooling.
Development Responsibilities:
  • Work as a team member to complete assigned tasks and develop ways to seek continual improvements
  • Develop between 5 and 21 Ops points
Accountabilities:
  • Comply and follow all safety and company policies.
  • Follow the direction of their Lead and Site Manager and complete assigned work using tools and blueprints.
  • Follow company or customer work instructions.
  • Meet company and customer quality requirements.

Authorities:

  • Propose new work instruction or modify existing to improve processes
  • Verify and understand the data taken
Experience:
  • Basic knowledge of hand and air tools
  • Understanding of basic assembly skills
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds in weight
  • Willing to travel as needed

Professional Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge and skill in using computer software, including Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Interpersonal and communication skills

Education:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
