Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in North Carolina is seeking an Apprentice Mechanic to learn how to maintain and repair our waste and recycling fleet. You will perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and major repairs on refuse trucks to ensure safe and reliable operations.

This role requires owning a basic set of tools, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain), and at least 1 year of diesel technician experience. Expect 10am start with long shifts and overtime after 40 hours.

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience as a diesel technician/mechanic.
Own a personal set of basic mechanic tools.
Valid driver's license; CDL preferred or willing to obtain.
Strong knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, diesel engines, and electrical troubleshooting.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
Repair and maintain waste fleet equipment (compressors, hydraulic cylinders, lift systems).
Conduct safety inspections ensuring DOT and company standards.
Maintain accurate work orders and fleet maintenance records.
Maintain a clean, safe shop environment; follow OSHA and DOT safety protocols.
