Job summary

Austin Energy is seeking an apprentice lineworker to join its Apprenticeship Program. Under direct supervision, you will perform apprentice-level tasks in Distribution, Network, or Transmission crafts and participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

Responsibilities include assisting with trouble call response, equipment prep, inventory, inspections, and operating aerial equipment, while meeting AE safety standards and school/work progression requirements.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
• Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment.
• Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate equipment weighing more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions, manuals, blueprints, and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Participates in On-the-Job Training (OJT) and classroom instruction; documents progression in the Apprenticeship Program.
• Climbs utility poles and structures; uses hand and powered tools; assists with trouble calls and maintenance of AE's transmission, network, or distribution system.
• Assists with preparing electrical equipment, tools, materials, cables, and conductors for use on AE systems.
• Assists with inventory of vehicles, materials, and equipment; performs inspections on electric utility vehicles.
• Responds to on-call, emergency calls, and after-hours outages; supports installation and maintenance of AE infrastructure.
