Job summary

Georgia Power is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Operator in Forest Park, GA, to perform safe operation of heavy construction and industrial equipment in support of transmission, generation, and maintenance projects.

The role requires compliance with OSHA and company safety rules, ability to read plans, and willingness to work long hours, weekends, and emergency response as needed. Pay is non-negotiable under a union contract.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate equipment in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and operating procedures.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and emergency response assignments when needed.
• Working knowledge of load placement and load securement when loading, unloading and hauling various types of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction and industrial equipment, including cranes and heavy‑haul vehicles.
• Set up, position, inspect, and operate equipment per specs and safety plans.
• Perform pre‑operational inspections and report deficiencies.
• Lift, haul, and handle materials with proper rigging and load securement.
• Read plans and coordinate with supervisors to execute work.
• Participate in safety briefings and daily coordination meetings.
• Support emergency restoration and storm response as required.
