Job summary

Georgia Power in Forest Park, GA is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy construction and industrial equipment in support of electric transmission, power generation, maintenance, and construction. You will follow OSHA regulations and company procedures while performing lifting and material-handling in dynamic field environments.

This role requires CDL eligibility, ability to read plans, and willingness to work extended hours or emergency shifts.

Qualifications

• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in outdoor environments.
• Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications and operating procedures.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and emergency response assignments.
• Working knowledge of load placement and load securement when loading, unloading and hauling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction and industrial equipment (cranes, heavy haul, trailers).
• Safely set up, position, inspect, and operate equipment per specs and lift plans.
• Perform pre-operational inspections and maintain equipment per safety limits.
• Conduct lifting, excavation, hauling, and material-handling using proper rigging and load-securement.
• Read job plans and drawings to ensure accurate execution of work.
• Coordinate with supervisors, crew leaders, spotters, contractors for safe transport and logistics.
• Participate in job safety briefings and daily coordination meetings.
• Support emergency restoration and storm response activities as required.
