Job summary

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is accepting applications for full-time Apprentice – Finish Grinders to join our Carbide manufacturing team. This hands-on program blends on-the-job training with four-year, in-house instruction, leading to Journeyworker title upon completion.

The role trains you to operate manual and CNC grinding equipment, read blueprints, and grind carbide components to exact specifications, with on-site classes and steady opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude.
• Must have the ability & desire to do precision work.
• Able to work well independently and cooperatively with team.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers is a plus.
• Regular attendance and solid performance in apprenticeship classes.
• Daylight shift, with availability for any shift; 8–10 hours/day; lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Report to work on time and ready to learn and accomplish tasks
• Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor
• Learn to operate and understand manual and CNC grinding equipment
• Learn to grind carbide components according to exact blueprint specifications
• Read prints & job orders to determine dimensions and machine set‑up
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
• Ensure proper grade segregation is practiced at all work stations
• Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices
