Job summary

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Apprentice – Machine Operator to join our Carbide facility in Saxonburg, PA. You will be part of the Preform department, learning precision machining in an employee-owned environment with growth opportunities.

The role primarily runs during daylight, with possible afternoon or midnight shifts. Training combines classwork and hands-on shop floor work within a 4-year apprenticeship program, accompanied by competitive pay and robust benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude.
• Must have the ability & desire to do precision work.
• Able to work independently and cooperatively with a team.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor
• Prioritize, plan and prepare work. Analyze tasks and establish appropriate sequence of operations
• Read prints & job orders for product specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and machine set-up requirements
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines
• Set-up and safely operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills, jig bores, and grinders in order to machine or grind components to customer specifications
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media
• Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
