Job summary

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Apprentice – Machine Operator in our Preform department at our Carbide facility. This full-time role trains on-site to perform precision machining using lathes, mills, grinders and CNC equipment.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and an aptitude for math and mechanics. No prior experience is required, though familiarity with measuring tools is a plus, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor.
  • Prioritize, plan and prepare work. Analyze tasks and establish appropriate sequence of operations.
  • Read prints & job orders for product specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and machine set-up requirements.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines.
  • Set-up and safely operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills, jig bores, and grinders in order to machine or grind components to customer specifications.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, gauges.

Penn United Technologies, Inc. is looking for a full-time Apprentice - Machine Operator to work in our Preform department at our Carbide facility. We are looking for individuals who desire to do precision work and enjoy working in a manufacturing environment where contributions matter, growth is supported, and success is shared.

What You’ll Do

As an Apprentice – Machine Operator, you will learn a skill which is in high demand and grow professionally in a career within our employee-owned company. Essential responsibilities include:

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

Knowledge And Skills
  • Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude
  • Must have the ability & desire to do precision work
  • Able to work well independently and cooperatively with team
  • Candidates must be available to work primarily daylight, but also have availability for afternoon and/or midnight shifts as needed, stand 8-10 hours per day, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Education/Experience
  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • No experience necessary, however, previous experience with lathes, mills, grinders, blueprint reading and measurement tools such as calipers & micrometers is a plus
