Job summary

Carter Machinery Company, Inc. in Richmond, VA is seeking an Apprentice Field Technician to join our 15-month in-house apprenticeship program. Earn while you learn, with full benefits and a path to becoming a Caterpillar technician.

The role requires high school diploma or GED and strong mechanical aptitude. You’ll support service teams, complete reports, and potentially work different shifts while gaining accredited training from a nationally recognized program.

Qualifications

• Self-starter able to work with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software; able to complete service reports and provide details for work orders.
• Strong written and verbal communication; write service reports and document diagnosis and repairs; prepare work orders, parts lists, and time cards accurately.
• Must read and understand operating manuals.
• Must occasionally operate heavy equipment.
• Must be self-directed, organized, and a team player.
• Must have an excellent driving record.
• Must be able to work all shifts and overtime as needed to meet customer needs.
• Promote a positive customer experience.
