Job summary

Davey Tree Surgery Co. is seeking a dynamic utility apprentice climber for outdoor work in California. You’ll learn climbing techniques and participate in pruning and removal services for major electric utility providers, with a focus on safety and professional growth.

Requirements include a valid driver’s license and the ability to complete Davey Tree orientation, First Aid/CPR, and defensive driving courses on hire. Travel and overtime opportunities are common in this role.

Qualifications

• Must love the outdoors and be willing to learn climbing systems.
• Complete Davey Tree orientation and First Aid/CPR courses on hire.
• Must have valid CDL and driver’s license.
• Preferred: line clearance experience or related tree work; pesticide licenses if state requires.

Responsibilities

• Learn climbing techniques and safety protocols for DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS.
• Perform pruning and removal for major electric utility providers.
• Prune treetops, repair damaged trees and remove limbs from hazards.
• Operate tools and equipment safely including chainsaws, chippers and aerial lifts.
• Work as a crew member with ground crew and foreman.

Position Overview

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn how to climb trees. (Yes, we will pay you to do that.) Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for major electric utility providers. Including but not limited to:
• Pruning treetops, repairing damaged trees by trimming or removal
• Removing broken limbs from utility lines, roofs, and other objects
• Tree identification and pruning to industry guidelines
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and foreman.

Qualifications

What We’re Seeking:

• Love of the outdoors
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Required: valid driver’s license
• Required: Commercial Driver’s License-Class A or B with Airbrake Endorsement
• Preferred: line clearance experience or other related tree work
• Preferred: relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
