Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg foundation seeks an Apprentice Carpenter to support Historic Trades and the Education mission. You will learn and demonstrate 18th-century carpentry, research primary sources, and work with artisans, historians, and conservators to interpret trade history for guests.

You will study period techniques, assist in constructing buildings with traditional methods, and progress toward journeyman status while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• Required: High school degree/G.E.D. with a general knowledge of 18th-century colonial history.
• Preferred: Four-year Degree in American History or related trade certification.

Responsibilities

• Interpretation of 18th-century history for guests and public audiences.
• Research using primary sources and object-based study to support narratives.
• Learn traditional carpentry methods and assist in building projects using period techniques.
• Develop interpretive narratives grounded in historical research for public demonstrations.
• Follow safety standards and work toward progression to journeyman status.
