Job summary

Uncommon Schools seeks an Apprentice Band Teacher to support across middle school band programs, with weekly coaching and a path to lead roles. You will begin by assisting in host schools, gaining hands-on experience under seasoned lead teachers, and preparing for SY27-28 leadership opportunities.

You will develop literacy in music reading and ensemble performance while teaching woodwinds, brass, and percussion, building skills and confidence in students across diverse settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in music education required; Master's degree preferred.
• Proficiency playing and teaching woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
• Experience leading bands and strong command of instrumental pedagogy.
• Ability to manage and direct large groups of students.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support in host school band programs alongside lead band teachers at multiple campuses.
• Engage in weekly observation and coaching cycles with the Director of Music Programs.
• Deliver high-quality instrumental instruction aligned to the network band program vision.
• Teach concert band pedagogy across woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
• Rehearse and conduct ensembles with 5+ instrumentation types.
• Plan music literacy components in rhythm, pitch notation, improvisation, and composition.
