Overview

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors. Capable of setting poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order. Capable of learning distribution voltages on a circuit and familiar with induced voltage. Capable of reading blueprints and assisting with inspecting and recognizing structural problems. Able to work productively from an aerial device. Able to function within a team environment and share knowledge with fellow crew members. Able to work alone on de-energized lines and to learn wire stringing techniques. Able to sag wire from structure or bucket and assist with assembling and erecting poles to various heights. Able to assist in framing and setting basic line structures and a de-energized pole structure in the air. Able to install all types of compression connections.

Responsibilities

• Able to work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
• Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and inspecting rubber goods, covers and PPE.
• Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools.
• Understand how to tie various lineman knots and create/use a hand line.
• Understand grounding procedures and principles of proper equipment setup.
• Able to identify different types of materials used in line work.
• Understand flag and tag procedures.
• Capable of performing basic bucket rescue/escape.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid CDL A is required.
• First Aid Certification is required; competency in CPR and pole top rescue is required.
• Must pass drug, alcohol, and background checks; must pass a physical examination.
• Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice and to work extended periods in various locations.
• Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments including inclement weather.
• Able and willing to work overtime when required.
• Understanding of the utility industry and operations; excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organization and time management; high professionalism and integrity; leadership and management skills; ability to make decisions; ability to process and analyze data.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed outside in all types of weather environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; bend, climb, stoop, stand, and lift for long periods.
• Substantial movements of the hands, wrists, and/or fingers; close visual acuity to perform job duties.
