Job summary

Moderna’s Applied Technologies team in Norwood, MA is seeking a winter/spring co-op from January 18, 2027 to June 25, 2027. Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the co-op.

You will collaborate with engineers and scientists to design, develop, test, and implement automation solutions used across CMC Development. You will gain hands-on experience with laboratory automation, robotics, software, data, and systems engineering while contributing to a defined technical project with

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in an engineering, computer science, bioengineering, robotics, automation, life sciences, or related technical discipline.
  • Completion of coursework or project experience in programming, robotics, laboratory automation, electrical/mechanical systems, systems engineering, data analysis, or biological sciences.
  • Demonstrated interest in applying engineering or digital technologies to scientific problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to document work clearly and communicate technical results.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a defined automation, robotics, or systems engineering project under guidance of an AT engineer or scientist.
  • Support development, configuration, and testing of laboratory automation systems, robotic platforms, instruments, or related software.
  • Assist with experimental execution, system characterization, troubleshooting, and collection of performance data.
  • Analyze test or experimental data and summarize findings to support engineering decisions.
  • Develop or modify scripts, workflows, automation methods, or simple software tools where appropriate.
  • Support preparation of test plans, technical documentation, diagrams, work instructions, and project summaries.
  • Participate in prototype development and evaluate improvements to system reliability, throughput, usability, or scalability.
  • Work with scientists, engineers, automation specialists, and other Technical Development partners to understand user needs.
  • Apply good engineering and documentation practices, including version control and structured testing.
  • Present project progress and findings to the Applied Technologies team at the end of the co-op.
