Job summary

Amazon in Seattle seeks an Applied Scientist to advance the language intelligence powering Alexa and related communications. You will reframe NLP tasks for LLM-native approaches, build agentic capabilities for multi-turn conversations, and ensure outputs stay grounded in customer context using retrieval-augmented generation.

You will fine-tune and optimize models, work with engineering and product teams, and shape evaluation frameworks for quality, faithfulness, latency, and customer impact

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree plus 4+ years in ML/model development.
• Experience building NLP models in production (NER, entity linking, intent detection).
• Strong programming experience in Java, C++, Python.

Responsibilities

• Research, develop, and deploy language intelligence powering communications.
• Tune and optimize foundation models for real-world data and multilingual content.
• Collaborate with eng/PM teams to ship LLM-powered features used by millions.
