Job summary

The University of Washington Climate Impacts Group (CIG) seeks a Research Scientist 3 to independently lead applied climate resilience and water management projects on the Pacific Northwest. You will analyze data with R, Python, and GIS and mentor junior staff in a collaborative setting.

Applicants should have strong mixed-methods and communication skills, with experience coordinating with partners and stakeholders across agencies and communities. Hybrid in Seattle, with in-person days required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, hydrology, or related field.
• At least 4 years’ experience managing climate resilience and/or water management projects.
• Strong analytical skills with spatial and quantitative methods using R, Python, GIS.

Responsibilities

• Lead and independently manage moderately sized applied climate resilience and water management projects.
• Evaluate benefits, tradeoffs, uncertainties and implementation considerations of water management and climate adaptation strategies.
• Apply spatial and quantitative analysis methods to analyze complex data using R, Python, GIS.
• Use mixed-methods research approaches (interviews, surveys, reviews) to evaluate environmental challenges.
