Job summary

Lumen is seeking a highly technical Applied AI Scientist to design, deploy, and optimize AI-powered solutions that advance business objectives. You will partner with product, engineering, and business teams to identify opportunities, rapidly prototype, and deliver production-ready AI capabilities.

You will combine expertise in machine learning, generative AI, software development, and experimentation to create scalable AI systems that improve customer experiences and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of applied AI, ML, data science, or related field.
• Experience developing and deploying production AI/ML solutions.
• Strong expertise in ML, statistics, predictive modeling, experimentation, and analytics.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, and modern AI frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python and tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain, MLflow.
• Experience with cloud platforms and production software environments.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in cross-functional agile teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML solutions from proof of concept to production.
• Partner with business and product stakeholders to identify use cases, objectives, and impact.
• Build solutions leveraging ML, generative AI, RAG, NLP, predictive analytics, and agentic workflows.
• Develop evaluation frameworks ensuring quality, accuracy, reliability, and performance.
• Collaborate with Engineering to operationalize AI solutions using MLOps and LLMOps.
• Contribute reusable code, tools, models, and frameworks to accelerate AI adoption.
• Stay current on emerging AI technologies and recommend innovative approaches.
• Contribute to technical best practices and knowledge sharing.
