Based in the heart of NYC and backed by leading venture capital firms/visionary healthcare leaders, RoVR is on a mission to transform the future of healthcare. We are seeking mission-driven engineers, designers, and operators to join our team and help us build the foundational operating system that will drive medicine for the next century.
As an Applied AI Engineer on Voice Agents, you will build the agents that talk to patients: calling and answering, verifying identity, scheduling, following up on referrals, and handing off to staff when a human is needed.
These agents speak with real patients about their care, so the bar is high. You'll own the full loop: real-time speech, conversation design, tool use, evals, and the latency and reliability that make a call feel natural. We are hiring for this role across Senior and Staff levels.
Build and ship voice agents end to end: real-time speech pipelines, turn-taking, interruptions, and call outcomes.
Partner with clinics and PMs to define what a great call looks like, and turn it into evals.
Optimize performance through prompt engineering, model selection, tool design, and context management.
Drive latency and cost down with smart model routing, caching, and streaming.
Build observability for calls (transcripts, traces, metrics) with PHI redacted.
Stay current on speech and agent models, and bring what works into production.
5+ years of software engineering experience, with recent hands-on work shipping LLM-powered products.
Strong Python, including async, and experience with LLM APIs and agent frameworks.
Experience with real-time voice: WebRTC, LiveKit or similar, STT, and TTS.
Comfortable using evals to drive quality.
Iterative mindset: you build proof of concepts, decide quickly, and ship v0s.
Nice to have: telephony (SIP, Twilio), or experience with HIPAA and PHI.
