Job summary

CHAOS Industries in San Francisco seeks an Applied AI Engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy AI/ML capabilities across product lines. You will work with data scientists, software engineers, product teams, and mission stakeholders to turn research into reliable software for defense applications demanding extreme accuracy under constrained conditions.

We value strong data science foundations and production software experience, with preference for aerospace/defense or other mission-driven

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in computer science, electrical/engineering, data science, applied mathematics or related field.
• 2-5 years of professional software development experience (exceptional fresh grads welcome to apply).
• Very strong Python programming skills.
• Experience building, testing, deploying, and supporting production software and models.
• Experience with AI/ML model integration, model serving infrastructure, or model lifecycle management.
• Experience with model evaluation, benchmarking, robustness testing, interpretability, or ML observability.
• Familiarity with APIs, distributed systems, containers, CI/CD, observability, and edge deployment environments/GPU optimization.
• Excited to learn unfamiliar technical domains.

Responsibilities

• Build applied AI systems across CHAOS product lines, including model integration and production-facing AI capabilities.
• Conduct research with product and mission teams to collect data, verify hypotheses, and create robust models.
• Evaluate model performance under real-world conditions and adversarial or degraded inputs.
• Develop production-quality software for data pipelines, model serving, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Create rapid prototypes with stakeholders and iterate toward production-ready implementations.
• Contribute to AI system reliability through testing, benchmarking, and observability.
