Job summary

CHAOS Industries seeks an Applied AI Engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy AI/ML capabilities across product lines. You will collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and mission stakeholders to turn research into reliable software.

The role focuses on defense applications requiring high accuracy under constrained conditions, including edge deployments and challenging environments. On-site presence in San Francisco is required 2–4 days per week, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• 2–5 years of professional software development experience
• Very strong Python programming skills
• Experience with AI/ML model integration, model serving infrastructure, or model lifecycle management
• Experience with APIs, Distributed systems, Containers, CI/CD, observability, and edge deployment environments/GPU optimization
• Excited to learn unfamiliar technical domains
• Willing to travel 10-20% if required
• Location: on-site in San Francisco 2–4 days per week

Responsibilities

• Build applied AI systems across CHAOS product lines, including model integration and production-facing capabilities
• Research and develop products with data collection, hypothesis testing, and robust deployment
• Evaluate model performance in real-world conditions including edge and GPS-denied environments
• Develop production-quality software for data pipelines, model serving, monitoring, and lifecycle management
• Create rapid prototypes with mission and product teams and iterate toward production-ready implementations
• Contribute to AI system reliability through testing, benchmarking, observability, and optimization
• Learn from existing codebases and domain experts to drive execution
• Manage time across meetings, discovery, implementation, experimentation, and production support
