Job summary

Groundswell is seeking an engineer to transform vague business needs into working software with a strong emphasis on AI capabilities. You will work directly with business stakeholders to refine requirements and design technical solutions that integrate AI, prompts, retrieval, and APIs.

The role blends client delivery with internal product work and rapid proofs of concept. You will contribute to production-quality functionality, engage in solution design discussions, and document outcomes,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent ability.
• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hands-on experience building apps that integrate LLMs, prompts, retrieval, and tools.
• Experience with APIs, data handling, and user-facing features.
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, or SQL; API integration and imperfect data.
• Ability to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and propose approaches.
• Willingness to challenge designs and pursue better solutions.
• U.S. Citizenship required for client engagements.

Responsibilities

• Take a defined technical approach and build production-ready functionality.
• Lead requirements discussions with business stakeholders and refine outcomes.
• Propose alternative approaches to simplify solutions and reduce AI where possible.
• Design and build AI-enabled applications with prompts, retrieval, APIs, and UI features.
• Create evaluation sets from real data and report results honestly.
• Investigate failures and implement fixes.
• Support client demos and proof-of-concepts to illustrate AI value.
• Ask thoughtful questions to understand client needs and best practices.
• Document logging, behavior, limits, validation, and failure handling.
• Move between client delivery, product work, POCs, and enablement as needed.
• Raise blockers early and share reusable patterns back to the team.
