Job summary

Rigaku Americas Corp. is seeking an X-ray Applications Scientist to support AXI tools in the Oregon area. This role collaborates with Service, Sales, Marketing, and development teams and requires up to 20% travel for on-site customer support and training.

You will lead deployments, assist customers with advanced packaging, and coordinate cross-functional improvements across US and Japan while delivering technical expertise in X-ray imaging and related techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Solid State, or related fields.
• Minimum of three years as an applications scientist/engineer in semiconductor metrology or process engineering with thin film QC.
• Independent hands-on experience with metrology equipment in semiconductors.
• Strong fundamentals in X-ray physics, spectroscopy, diffraction and scattering.
• Proficiency in English; basic-level Japanese/Chinese/Korean/Hebrew is a plus.
• Basic programming or scripting skills (Python, Matlab, VBA).

Responsibilities

• Lead alpha/beta tool deployments and customer evaluations for AXI tools.
• Interact with customers to inspect advanced packaging in high-volume production.
• Coordinate with US/Japan teams to define HW/SW improvements and new applications.
• Provide applications support using X-ray imaging, XRF, XRD, and XRR techniques.
• Assist remotely and on-site with recipe creation, tool operation, and data analysis.
• Support tool installations and troubleshoot issues with Rigaku Service.
• Support Sales to ensure customer satisfaction and lead demonstrations.
• Create technical docs, notes, and training materials for audiences.
• Maintain productive relationships with customers and colleagues; travel up to 20%, including some international trips.

Rigaku Semiconductor Metrology Division is seeking an X-ray Applications Scientist to support Rigaku's advanced X-ray imaging metrology products in the Oregon area. This position will work closely with Rigaku Service, Sales, Marketing, and the product development teams, and requires up to 20% travel for on-site customer applications support and training.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and ensure successful alpha/beta tool deployment and early customer evaluations for Rigaku advanced X-ray imaging (AXI) tool.
• Work with customers to inspect advanced packaging in wafer, singulated components, or panel in a high-volume production environment.
• Serve as the primary customer point of contact and coordinate with Rigaku teams in US and Japan to define HW/SW improvements for AXI tools. Collaboratively define new application space for Rigaku AXI technology.
• Provide applications support for Rigaku semiconductor metrology tools utilizing a variety of X-ray analytical techniques, e.g. X-ray imaging, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray reflectometry.
• Assist customers remotely and on-site with recipe creation and optimization, tool operation and data analysis. Use expert technical knowledge of X-ray imaging techniques to drive solutions to challenging customer applications.
• Provide support to the Rigaku Service team for new tool installations and perform deep dive analysis to help troubleshoot tool issues as needed.
• Provide support to the Rigaku Sales team to ensure customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Work to understand customer application requirements and objectives and act as technical lead for product demonstrations.
• Write technical documentation and application notes, and create and maintain training material. Clearly and effectively communicate highly technical subject matter to a variety of audiences.
• Maintain positive, productive work relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels.
• Travel to customer sites located primarily within the United States, but with occasional international trips.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D or M.S. in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Solid State, or related engineering fields.
• Minimum of three years of work experience as an applications scientist or applications engineer in a semiconductor metrology tool manufacturer or as a process engineer in a semiconductor device manufacturer with thin film quality control/metrology experience.
• Independent, hands-on experience metrology equipment in the semiconductor industry.
• Strong understanding of fundamentals of X-ray physics, spectroscopy, diffraction and scattering.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor device manufacturing process, including advanced packaging.
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, e.g. root cause analysis, 5 Whys.
• Proficient in data analysis techniques and skills, including a working knowledge of statistics and statistical process control.
• Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English. Ability to speak at an intermediate level in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or Hebrew is a plus.
• Basic programming or scripting skills; e.g., Python, Matlab, VBA
• Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional international travel.
