Job summary

JR Automation, A Hitachi Group Company, is seeking an Applications Engineering Intern to support design, build, program, and deployment of custom automated equipment at our Nashville, TN facility. You will work with applications, controls, mechanical, and build teams on automation projects for diverse industries.

The internship runs May 2027 through August 2027. Candidates should be enrolled in an engineering program and have CAD skills, plus basic MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• CAD proficiency expected.
• Familiarity with electrical and pneumatic schematic drawing.
• Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with applications engineers to design automation lines for customers nationwide.
• Work with other engineers to brainstorm and vet automation solutions.
• Create CAD models, conduct timing studies, and prepare quote materials.
• Communicate with customers to gather requirements and guide them through the automation process.
• Coordinate with vendors for quotes and SME input.
• Develop and present an intern project to management and teams.

As an Applications Engineering Intern,you will assist and support other Applications Engineers. Learn from some of the most dedicated and technically competent engineers in the Automation Industry. JR Automation drives change by learning and innovating faster than anyone else. As a member of a project team, you’ll work alongside our Applications, Controls, Mechanical, and Build teams to support the design, build, program, and deployment of custom automated equipment.

What You’ll Do:

• Work with a team of applications engineers to design custom automation lines for customers nationwide in a variety of industries.
• Collaborate with applications, mechanical, and controls engineers to brainstorm and vet automation solutions, while learning about the automation industry.
• Create CAD models, conduct automation timing studies, and prepare quote materials for customers.
• Communicate directly with customers to gather requirements, show concept designs, and guide them through the automation process.
• Reach out to vendors for product quotes and subject matter expertise.
• Develop, build, and present an intern project to general management and applications team.

What You’ll Bring:

• High School graduate, or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college program pursuing an engineering degree.

Skills You’ll Have:

• Basic proficiency in CAD.
• Basic knowledge of electrical/pneumatic schematic drawing packages.
• Computer literacy in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
