Job summary

SHI Cryogenics Group seeks a product expert to act as the primary technical interface between SHI Cryogenics Group in Tokyo and U.S. customers for both pre-sale and post-sale activities.

The role involves collecting VOC, translating requirements into internal specs, and collaborating with Tokyo development to ensure product features meet customer needs. Occasional travel to Japan is required and MA-based site work is performed at Bedford, MA.

Qualifications

• BS in physics, mechanical engineering, or another related field.
• 5+ years professional engineering experience with customer interface preferred
• Experience with cryopumps and ion implanters
• Experience with high vacuum technology preferred
• MS in physics, mechanical engineering, or another related field desired
• Experience with semiconductor industry preferred
• Experience working in a Japanese company and with non-native English speakers would be a plus

Salary Range:

$105,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

Summary:

As a product expert working closely with Sumitomo Cryogenics of America (SCAI) Account Management Sales team, this position will serve as the primary technical interface between SHI Cryogenics Group in Tokyo, Japan and assigned customers for both pre-sale and post-sale activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Become SCAI’s technical expert for key Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers. Build solid working relationships with key OEM customers’ technical personnel.
• Collect and interpret customers’ technical product requirements for new business opportunities.
• Define internal specifications for new product features based on customers’ requirements.
• Work with Tokyo development team to ensure new product features meet customer requirements.
• Collect Voice of the Customer (VOC) input from key end user customers.
• Help with the hiring, development, and training of any new Application Engineers for the US East Coast.
• Develop SICERA training courses for customers’ technical/operations/service team members and conduct the training for key customers.
• Draft, revise, and distribute certain customer-facing technical documentation together with Tokyo development team.
• Acquire competitive intelligence related to competitors’ product features, specifications, performance, and other related business information, such as supply chain information.
• Provide on-site system integration support and training for customer evaluations and first-time product installations.
• Provide timely and accurate responses to customer-driven information and action requests.
• Understand root cause analysis and drive resolution of product issues/problems/inquiries with respect to performance and reliability.
• Collect and track product performance data in the field.
• Keep close communication with Japan-based sales, engineering teams, and global teams on other product application or performance issues at OEMs/end users.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

• BS in physics, mechanical engineering, or another related field.

Experience:

• Years of Experience: 5+ years professional experience in an engineering position (customer interface experience preferred)
• Experience with cryopumps and ion implanters.
• Experience with high vacuum technology preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

• MS in physics, mechanical engineering, or another related field desired.

Experience:

• Experience with semiconductor industry preferred.
• Experience working in a Japanese company and working with non-native English speakers in professional settings would be a plus.

Travel:

This role will require frequent visits to local customer sites in Massachusetts, and occasional trips to Japan (1-2 /year). Initially, this individual is expected to spend up to 2 weeks at a time to attend intensive training in Japan.

SCAI does not have an office location in MA. Work site is partner SHI subsidiary company site in Bedford, MA. There is some flexibility of work arrangements with direct manager if customers’ needs are satisfied.

Schedule:

May need to have evening meetings with Japan team (2 per week)
