Job summary

b19 Consulting is seeking an Applications Engineer / Solutions Engineer to join a growing utility technology team. This customer-facing role focuses on helping investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, cooperatives, and channel partners evaluate and deploy grid solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in power systems or technical pre-sales.
  • Experience with utility operations and grid modernization initiatives.
  • Strong communication for engineering and business audiences.
  • Experience with ADMS, GIS, OMS, SCADA, CIS, DERMS integration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery conversations with utility engineering, operations, and planning teams.
  • Support opportunities across the sales cycle with utilities and channel partners.
  • Prepare technical responses for RFPs, RFIs, and customer questionnaires.
  • Design pilot programs and proof-of-concepts for validation activities.
  • Deliver compelling product demonstrations and articulate technical value to customers.
  • Provide technical enablement and training for channel partners, representatives, and dealers.
  • Collaborate with Sales to shorten evaluation cycles and improve win rates.

We are hiring an Applications Engineer / Solutions Engineer to join a growing utility technology team. This is a customer-facing technical role focused on helping investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, cooperatives, and channel partners evaluate and deploy innovative grid solutions.

As the firms commercial pipeline continues to expand, they are looking for a technically strong engineer who enjoys translating complex utility challenges into practical, scalable solutions. You will work alongside Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to support strategic pursuits, lead technical evaluations, and accelerate adoption across the utility market.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead technical discovery conversations with utility engineering, operations, and planning teams.
  • Support direct utility and channel-partner opportunities throughout the sales cycle.
  • Prepare and deliver technical responses for RFPs, RFIs, and customer questionnaires.
  • Design and coordinate pilot programs, proof-of-concepts, and technical validation activities.
  • Deliver compelling product demonstrations and articulate technical value to customers.
  • Provide technical enablement and training for channel partners, representatives, and dealers.
  • Support integration discussions involving ADMS, GIS, OMS, SCADA, CIS, and related utility enterprise systems.
  • Gather customer feedback and communicate market requirements to Product and Engineering teams.
  • Partner closely with Sales to shorten evaluation cycles and improve win rates.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in power systems, utility engineering, grid technology, or technical pre-sales.
  • Strong understanding of electric utility operations and distribution/transmission environments.
  • Experience participating in customer-facing technical discussions with utilities, EPCs, consultants, or technology providers.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to both engineering and commercial audiences.

Preferred

  • Experience with ADMS, GIS, OMS, SCADA, CIS, DERMS, or utility integration projects.
  • Background in distribution automation, grid monitoring, fault management, outage management, or related grid modernization technologies.
