Xact Metal, Inc. is seeking an Application Engineer for on-site work in State College, PA. You will support customers and the sales team, answer technical questions, coordinate demos, and operate metal 3D printers for sales and production contexts.

Requirements include a relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience, 3+ years in the field, and strong problem-solving, coding, and communication skills. Occasional travel and trade show participation are expected.

THE OPPORTUNITY: APPLICATION ENGINEER USD Salary Range Transparency - Starting pay is commensurate with experience.

Location: On-site in State College, PA

Overview of position:

Metal additive manufacturing technology powered by 3D Printing is evolving quickly from a niche tool used primarily in university research to an industry tool that helps companies develop and manufacture products faster and more cheaply. Xact Metal, headquartered in State College, PA, makes metal additive manufacturing systems affordable for small- to mid-sized companies that need prototyping, casting, tooling, and small-part printing but couldn't afford metal powder-bed fusion systems in the past.

Xact Metal is seeking an exceptional Application Engineer to add horsepower to our friendly, largely self-directed team of highly skilled professionals who continue to deliver new products and improve manufacturing techniques.

Overall responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Support end customers and the sales team by answering technical sales questions about our products & technology; recommending printing solutions; and supporting quotations.
• Coordinate with internal Xact Metal resources to answer detailed technical questions from customers and the sales team.
• Coordinate demo benchmark production with sales and customers.
• Operate Xact Metal printers for both sales & production applications.

MINIMUM JOB ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, engineering, or information systems, or equivalent experience.Three-plus years of experience is highly desired!
• Knowledge and experience with programming languages, enterprise program development and design, and hardware.
• Commitment to problem-solving and interfacing with colleagues and clients.
• Relevant hands‑on engineering or development experience.
• Ability to develop and improve company‑utilized software applications.
• Strong knowledge of software and coding.
• Comfortable with scripting and debugging when requested.
• Soft skills, including exceptional customer service, professional communication and presentation skills, and interpersonal skills.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (These are a plus, not required!)

• Superior troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable wearing a variety of hats, each with the skills needed to communicate clearly with specific teams.
• Sales experience is a plus!

OTHER “MUST HAVE” JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to read, accurately comprehend/interpret, and follow instructions, blueprints, schematics, test plans, quality standards, and tolerance guidelines furnished in written, digital/electronic, diagram, or schedule form.
• Solid math and reasoning skills to prepare, compile, and validate data/reports.
• Ability to interpret data, evaluate metrics, and apply appropriate problem‑analysis or problem‑solving techniquesto accurately assess, resolve, and/or improve upon a technical product or process issue; must possess strong business acumen with the ability to solve problems creatively and resourcefully in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Demonstrated success prioritizing and managing work requests from multiple sources; solid time management and relationship‑building skills are essential.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are critical.
• Ability to meet deadlines and complete work assignments in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner, according to prescribed best practices and industry standards; this includes, but is not limited to, engineering principles and procedures, knowledge of material characteristics and manufacturing practices, standard test methods and related test instrumentation, etc.
• If required by job duties, background checks (criminal/education/ employment/ reference/ credit/ DMV) may be performed; results must be satisfactory to the company.
• A valid driver's license is required; you must provide your own transportation and travel (+/- 15%) to/from customer sites, as needed. Occasional overnight travel is also required; you must also be able to travel by standard carrier air and/or train.
• If hired, must adhere to all OSHA/safety standards and protocols, company policies and procedures, and other prescribed best practices/industry standards.
