Job summary

Micro Instrument Corp in New York is seeking an Applications Engineer to design and price automated equipment, tooling and fixtures based on customer specifications.

You will work with mechanical, controls and sales teams to translate concepts into proposals, with travel as needed and a focus on process-driven delivery.

Qualifications

  • AAS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent, plus 2 years’ experience.
  • Automation experience preferred.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks.
  • Excellent technical and business verbal and written communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and pricing of automated equipment, gages and fixtures using Micro approved formats and documents.
  • Attend quote meetings as required.
  • Work overtime to satisfy delivery requirements as required.
  • Assist with design as required.
  • Adhere to corporate philosophies and procedures.
  • Look for improvements regarding all aspects of applications engineering.
  • Provide required assistance to sub-contract engineering firms, mechanical and controls design, sales, and mechanical/controls build groups to maximize results.
  • Assembly final detailed concept for project handoff.
  • Support sales activities as required.
  • Overnight travel, if required.
  • Provide timely and detailed status updates.
  • Ensure standards are maintained in a highly regulated, process driven environment.
  • Help train/orient/bring up-to-speed new employees.

The Applications Engineer is responsible to read and interpret customer supplied specifications, statements of work and/or other customer supplied information to develop concepts and pricing for design and fabrication of automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and gages. The Applications Engineer will work closely with mechanical, controls and business development engineers to develop concept pricing that the client will find beneficial. They will also work with mechanical and controls engineering, along with the sales team, to ensure that Micro’s customer design specifications or statements of work are satisfied. The Applications Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering.

Job Qualifications:
  • Education and Experience: Completion of AAS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent, plus 2 years’ experience is required
  • Automation experience preferred
  • Proficient in SolidWorks required
  • General skills/qualifications: MS Office 2010 (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer literacy
  • Excellent technical and business verbal and written communication skills
  • U.S. Citizen or Greed Card
