Godfrey & Wing is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to develop technical solutions and quotations for custom industrial equipment and vacuum impregnation applications. This role works closely with customers and internal teams to understand application requirements, develop equipment concepts, estimate costs, and prepare accurate technical and commercial proposals.
The ideal candidate has strong custom equipment experience, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work directly with customers to understand process, production, quality, and equipment requirements.
- Review RFQs, specifications, drawings, and other technical requirements.
- Develop equipment concepts and custom system solutions for new applications.
- Prepare project scopes, technical proposals, estimates, and cost analyses.
- Identify technical risks, assumptions, exclusions, and scope requirements during the quotation process.
- Partner with Engineering, Controls, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales, and Service to validate solutions and costs.
- Support Sales during customer meetings, proposal reviews, and technical discussions.
- Develop concepts for tooling, fixtures, baskets, material handling, and other application-specific needs.
- Provide a clear technical and commercial handoff of awarded projects to Engineering.
- Support projects as a technical resource and maintain customer involvement as needed.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in applications engineering, custom equipment, estimating, engineering, or a related industrial equipment environment.
- Experience developing and quoting custom equipment or engineered systems.
- Strong knowledge of custom industrial equipment and system-level design.
- Mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical and controls systems.
- Experience estimating equipment, fabrication, components, engineering, and installation costs.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and identify requirements and potential risks.
- CAD experience.
- Bachelor's or associate degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience with thermal, vacuum, fluid-handling, or automated industrial equipment is preferred.
- Ability to travel 15–30%, including occasional international travel.
