Job summary

Genuine Search Group in Milwaukee seeks an Application Engineer to help define project requirements, develop system concepts, and prepare technical proposals for customer automation projects.

Qualifications

  • SolidWorks proficiency for mechanical design and concept development.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, and responses to RFPs/RFQs.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to customer facilities.

Position Description: Application Engineer

Position Summary

Our client, a well-established custom automation and robotics systems integrator, is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This individual will play a key role in developing innovative automation solutions by working closely with customers, sales, and engineering teams to define project requirements, develop system concepts, and prepare technical proposals.

The ideal candidate is a technically driven professional with strong SolidWorks experience, exceptional communication skills, and a proven ability to develop quotations and respond to customer Requests for Proposal (RFPs). This role is well suited for someone who enjoys working directly with customers and translating manufacturing challenges into practical automation solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Meet with customers to understand manufacturing processes, production challenges, and automation requirements.
  • Develop innovative automation concepts and robotic system solutions that meet customer objectives.
  • Create 3D layouts, concept models, and preliminary equipment designs using SolidWorks.
  • Prepare detailed technical quotations, cost estimates, and commercial proposals.
  • Review customer RFPs and RFQs, developing comprehensive technical responses that align with project requirements.
  • Define project scope, assumptions, timelines, and technical specifications for proposed solutions.
  • Evaluate technical feasibility, project risks, and manufacturing considerations during the proposal stage.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, robotics, and project engineering teams to ensure a seamless transition from sales to project execution.
  • Provide technical support during customer presentations, proposal reviews, and project kickoff meetings.
  • Maintain proposal documentation, estimating tools, and engineering standards.
  • Stay current on advancements in industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing technologies, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks for mechanical design and concept development.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, and responses to customer RFPs and RFQs.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience with custom automation, robotics integration, or special machine design.
  • Knowledge of industrial robotic systems, machine vision, motion control, pneumatics, and automated assembly equipment.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as assembly, material handling, welding, packaging, or machining.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and machine guarding requirements.
  • Experience developing project cost estimates and performing value engineering.
